Living by Every Word

Image
You may have heard how we are to live by every work that proceeds from the mouth of God. You may ask what those words mean.  People may give you the common primary answers like the scriptures or the church leadership. Occasionally someone might bring up the very best one of all. God himself. Most people are not seraphim so I am not talking about God literally speaking face to face with you, but you can have the equivalent all the time and be blessed for it. The Holy Ghost is part of the Godhead and when it speaks to you it is the same as God speaking to you directly. In fact if you can perfectly follow what the Holy Ghost tells you then you can have the blessing of the Second Comforter. The one leads to the other which leads ultimately to our Heavenly Father. We have to understand how this works. You have probably seen the classic devil and angel on the shoulder trope. Well that is actually pretty close. We have three voices in our head vying for our att...

Disneyland Paris Not The Park You Are Expecting

Image
I had been dreaming about going to Disneyland Paris for a quarter of a century. I remember seeing the opening day special on TV and hoping I could go someday. I know it was 25 years because I went  for the 25th anniversary. The park is beautiful, but beyond that it does not have much going for it. When I went tons of rides were breaking down. Space Mountain had relaunched as Star Wars: Hyperspace Mountain about 6 months earlier but still clearly had kinks to work out as it would open only to close again repeatedly throughout the day. Thunder Mountain was down most of the day. Other smaller attractions also had closures in the park. Across the way at Walt Disney Studios Park things were about the same. The Tram Tour was down a good amount of the time I was visiting. I was fortunate to get to ride it right before heading back to Disneyland though. The Tower of Terror was down almost the entire time I was in the park. Maintenance seems to be a big problem at both parks. T...

Mormon Not Mormon Vol 2:

Image
Do you know famous church members? Take this quiz to find out. Joseph Smith Jr or Russel M. Nelson .... .... If you said Russel M. Nelson you probably have not been paying much attention in church recently. Russel M. Nelson is an ex-Mormon and is in fact very anti-Mormon. He strongly discourages the use of Mormon or LDS. Joseph Smith said, " Truth is "Mormonism." God is the author of it. " Benji or Old Yeller .... .... If you guessed Old Yeller you would be correct. It is a little known fact that Old Yellers family was one of many pioneers that stayed behind to help future pioneers with their trek west. Your Grandma or Lucy Mack Smith .... .... I know what your thinking...how did you get a picture of my grandma? Let's just say I have my methods. The real question though is which one is Mormon? If we would have asked you a couple weeks ago we would have said both but now your Grandam is an ex-Mormon. Luc...

How many Dating Hours Before You Marry?

Image
How many Dating Hours Before You Marry? I had this random thought about young LDS members that date and get married. I was thinking about how these kids at BYU will get engaged after 2-3 months of dating. I saw it myself when I was visiting during the spring summer term. In the most extreme case I once home taught a man who was a 70 (old school high priest missionary style) that got engaged at the end of his first date and got married a week later. This was not a woman he knew all his life either. It seemed to work for him but that was an extreme example I do not recommend marriage after a single date. Even members often find it odd to get married after only a couple months. It may also depend where you are from. A Utah Mormon may have no problem with it while a member from another country may think it is crazy. Then I wondered if it really is all that crazy? Most people go on a date maybe once a week. But kids in school often go out every day or at least a few times a week...

Mormon 101: Are Mormons Christian, a cult, and do they believe in the Bible?

Mormon 101: Are Mormons Christian, a cult, and do they believe in the Bible? This blog is mostly targeted to the LDS audience. However I am active in multiple groups that allow members and non-members. Also if people who have friends that are interested in learning about the gospel they can check the blog out and learn more. So I am going to be doing a series about pretty simple info that sadly few people seem to know about the church. Merriam-Webster defines Christian as: one who professes belief in the teachings of Jesus Christ. It doesn’t even matter if what you believe is not what Christ taught. If you claim to believe what he taught you are in. Mormons are actually members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We profess to follow the teachings of Jesus. This means we are in fact Christian. We have different beliefs than many other Christian religions which is one reason many groups claim we are not Christian. It is unfortunate but we are used to it. ...

Mormon Not Mormon

Mormon Not Mormon Do you know famous church members? Take this quiz to find out. R2-D2 or C-3PO ..... ..... If you said C-3PO you would be .... wrong. C-3PO is actually a Creatorist. R2-D2 was first introduced the the church after filming the Return of the Jedi. He had a hard time after the end of the series which you can learn more about in the riveting documentary R2-D2: Beneath the Dome. Because of his private nature the film does not include how after hitting rock bottom it was a pair of sister missionaries that introduced him to the gospel. While he has been active in the church since the mid 80's he has not been able to get baptized. As his long time friend C-3PO explained, "It would literally fry his circuits." Joe Montana or Steve Young .... .... Ok that should be an easy one. If you guessed Jason Bateman you were paying absolutely no attention at all. The answer is Steve Young. As most of you (in the US) probably already know Steve Yo...

Are We Amish?

Image
Are We Amish? If you have been a member long enough you are bound to have been asked if you were Amish. If you are not a member you might want to know if we are Amish. Nope we are not. We might or might not be an offshoot of the Mennonites though (nope we are not). Many non-members do not think anyone thinks Mormons are Amish. I like to say your lack of knowledge on a subject does not negate my knowledge. I don’t know Calculus or if Bigfoot exists (actually as well all know he’s Cain) but that does not mean they don’t. One reason that many people think Mormons are Amish is when the film Witness came out in 1985 many international versions called the Amish Mormon. I have known many missionaries even decades later find that this is still a problem in the country they served. Even in the US we get questions all the time about things that sound like they think we are Amish. People ask if we own, drive, can ride in, or allow women to use cars. They even ask if we can only o...

Mormon News

Image
Study By Utah University School of Medicine, Harvard School of Medicine, and Dr Scholl’s School of Podiatry released a 100 year study in the general of New England Medicine confirming that Mormons do not have horns. Many Baptist schools refute this claim. The schools refuting the study claim that 16 millions people is not a large enough sample size. On top of that the study was only looking at visible and not invisible horns. In other news recent work on the Joseph Smith Papers uncovered a new proclamation given to God to the Prophet. It reads, “ MLM is not of me, thus sayeth the Lord.” The church is considering adding it to the Doctrine & Covenants. Skeptics of the church say they are 10% less skeptical of the church thanks to this finding. In mission news Ash Ketchum has turned 18 after 25 years of Pokemon training and will be going on his mission this month. His mission call is to the Johto region. When asked for comment his friend and long time travel companion Pika...
