Mormon 101: Are Mormons Christian, a cult, and do they believe in the Bible?
This blog is mostly targeted to the LDS audience. However I am active in multiple groups that allow members and non-members. Also if people who have friends that are interested in learning about the gospel they can check the blog out and learn more. So I am going to be doing a series about pretty simple info that sadly few people seem to know about the church.
Merriam-Webster defines Christian as: one who professes belief in the teachings of Jesus Christ. It doesn’t even matter if what you believe is not what Christ taught. If you claim to believe what he taught you are in. Mormons are actually members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We profess to follow the teachings of Jesus. This means we are in fact Christian.
We have different beliefs than many other Christian religions which is one reason many groups claim we are not Christian. It is unfortunate but we are used to it.
Are we a cult? It’s back to the dictionary again. Merriam-Webster defines it as: a religion regarded as unorthodox or spurious also : its body of adherents examples it gives are the voodoo cult and a satanic cult. It also uses:  a system of religious beliefs and ritual. Who determines what is Orthodox or not? Also any religion can be “a system of religious beliefs and ritual.” A better way to define cult is to use what Google brings up: a relatively small group of people having religious beliefs or practices regarded by others as strange or sinister. We are not a small group. We are one of the largest religions in the US and are an international church. We might be strange but we are not sinister.
Finally we do believe in the Bible. We use the Bible in services and study from it. We believe that it has errors which is in line with modern scholars on the subject. The main reason people think we do not believe in the Bible is we have additional scripture. The Ethiopian Jewery also have extraconcial writings unique to them. Even the Catholics have books not found in most Christian Bibles. We are blessed that we have additional scripture that God has helped to protect from becoming corrupted by accident or design.


So Mormons as we are often called are Christian, not a cult, and do believe in the Bible.

While what goes on inside the temples may only be seen by active worthy members the outside can be seen by all. Even if you have never entered a temple you can still appreciate their architectural beauty. You might be wondering why I get to determine the 5 best buildings and I actually have 3 reasons. New Book Of Mormon Translations Announced

The Church has recently released a number of new Book of Mormon translations which will be available free to download next month from the church and this week through your favorite torrent sites. The translations include   Klingon, Vulcan, Cityspeak, Na'vi, Huttese, Ewokese, Quenya, Adunaic, Newspeak, Nadsat, Atlantean, Barsoomian,  Gungan,  Dothraki , and Parseltongue. The church decided to translate the Book of Mormon into these languages to help spread interest among the Millennials and Generation Z.  The languages chosen were hotly debated. Languages like Cityspeak would only be known by people who watched the R rated film Blade Runner. It was allowed in since the church would also like to use these translations as a proselyting tool.
